UDA chief’s poser to Naidu on ryots’ issue

Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority Chairman Malladi Vishnu wrote a six-page open letter to Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on behalf of farmers asking him what the TDP had done for the farmer while it was in power.

The letter said the farmers were writing this open letter unable to forget the difficulties they faced when the Telugu Desam Party was in power. Mr. Naidu was asked to tell them the importance his Government had given to rural development or to the farmers. Farmers had no alternative but to commit suicide because there was nobody to address their problems, the letter said.

It said that it was not possible to improve the lot of the farmers after shattering the agrarian and rural economy of the State.

PCC executive committee member Kolanukonda Sivaji, in a separate statement, asked how anybody could say that the policies of the Congress were against the interests of the farmers. The Congress Government was spending thousands of crores on the pending irrigation projects, hundreds of crores were being spent in the 16 districts in which farmers had committed suicide. Water was being given to the farmer even for raising a second crop and one lakh heads of milch cattle were being given to the poor to promote dairy development, Mr. Sivaji said and asked if any of this was against the interest of the farmers.
