Within a span of 45 days, 11 regions net Rs. 50.19 crore

CHENNAI: Within a span of 45 days, 11 regions of Co-optex have registered nationwide retail sales of Rs.50.19 crore, marking an increase of 105.44 per cent over its target of Rs.47.60 crore.
For the seven-and-half month period up to November 14, Co-optex retail sales stood at Rs.74.36 crore as against Rs.64.18 crore registered during the corresponding period last year. Co-optex has set itself a target of Rs.125 crore for the current year ending March 2008.
“During the Deepavali season, cotton ware and silk ware accounted for the majority of sales as against cotton in the previous occasions. There has been huge shift in the preferences of the customers, who went in for silk saris as well as aroma shirts. Thiruvarangam saris sold like hot cakes.
For the first time, we saw youth demanding our products,” Co-optex Special Officer and Managing Director M.P. Nirmala told The Hindu on Tuesday.
“We had good sales throughout the country. If we set aside the sales of our showrooms in Bangalore, Mumbai and Vijayawada, we can easily say that Vellore and Chennai dominated the sales registering an increase of 118 per cent and 110 per cent over the targeted figure.
The response from the Andaman and Nicobar islands is also encouraging,” she said.
