TNeGA evaluating bids for e-services
N. Anand
CHENNAI: Reliance Communications, India Cements, 3i Infotech, CMS Computers, SREI-Wipro, Terasoft, Hughes, Comat and Zoom Developers are in the race to set up Common Service Centres (CSCs) all over Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) Chief Executive Officer Kumar Jayant chaired the pre-bid meeting that was attended by over 22 companies last week. Currently, TNeGA is evaluating the bids based on the presentations made by the interested parties and the winners would be announced by the month-end.
“In all, we could have a minimum of two players or a maximum of five players to serve the entire State that is divided into five zones. The successful bidders have to provide G2C (Government to Citizens) services for a minimum period of four years through 5,443 CSCs. They would be given 12 months’ time to roll out their services,” Information Secretary C. Chandramouli told The Hindu.
Nod for 6 projects
To start with, the Centre has approved six projects for enhancing the e-services of six departments — Taluk Offices, Collectorates, Registration Department, Transport Department, Civil Supplies Department and Municipalities. The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), the State’s e-governance implementing agency, used family card as a test case for its first e-governance project and tasted success by capturing data from different parts of the State through the Tamil Nadu State Wide Area Network using Linux as its platform.
