HUBLI: The management board of the Karnataka Cooperative Sugar Factory (KCSF) at Sangur in Haveri district has been superseded and the Deputy Commissioner of Haveri has been appointed as the administrator. Speaking to presspersons in Haveri, after assuming office as the administrator of KCSF on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner, P.S. Vastrad, said that the Sugar Commissioner had given a show cause notice to the management board of the sugar factory on the alleged irregularities in the factory. November 20 was the last date for giving a reply to the showcase notice. However, since there was no reply to the show cause notice, the Sugar Commissioner had issued an order for superseding the management board, he explained. AdministratorMr. Vastrad said he had been asked to officiate as the administrator of the sugar factory for six months and he would make efforts to start the crushing of sugar at the earliest. TendersHe said the last date for receiving tenders for running the factory on contract basis was November 28. Based on the response, further action would be taken, he said. It might be recalled that the previous tenders floated in this regard had received no response. Mr. Vastrad said once the contractors come forward to run the factory, the next steps, like giving salary arrears to the workers, paying electricity bill arrears and others would be taken up. InquiryTo a query, the District Commissioner said he would inquire into the alleged financial irregularities in the factory and would seek further directions from the Sugar Commissioner. Meanwhile, in the wake of the decision to supersede the management board, the women of the workers’ families, who were on indefinite strike in Haveri, have decided to withdraw their protest. WithdrawnAccording to the association of the workers, the agitation, which would enter its 25th day on Friday, would be withdrawn after paying tributes to Durgappa Talwar, a worker who committed suicide recently.
