Girl run over by van

TAMBARAM: A five-year-old girl was run over by a private van, moments after she got down from the vehicle that picked her up from school, in East Tambaram, on Thursday.
LKG student V. Pavithra died on the spot. A student of the Air Force School, housed in the Indian Air Force Station premises in Tambaram, Pavithra usually got picked up by her father, Velmurugan, and both of them returned home on a bicycle.
The family lives in Mariamman Koil Street, Vinobaji Nagar, just a few hundred metres away from the Air Force Station’s main entrance. Residents and traders who were witness to the accident rushed her to a private hospital nearby, where she was declared dead on arrival, traffic police said.
