This Day That Age
The second meeting of the informal Consultative Committee of Members of Parliament for the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research held on November 20 was of the opinion that every effort should be made to provide schooling facilities for all the children of age group 6 to 11 by the end of 1965-66. This recommendation had been endorsed by the State Education Ministers’conference held in September last. Even this limited objective, as against the target for provision of universal, free and compulsory education for all children up to the age of 14 could not be achieved without the allocation of more funds provided for the purpose under the Second Plan. In regard to rephrasing of plans of secondary education, the members were informed that there was no necessity and the main important consideration in secondary education was the reorganisation and improvement of secondary education.
