Tamil Nadu Electricity Board beats Classic Basketball Club in opener

Tuticorin: Host Tamil Nadu Electricity Board beat Classic Basketball Club 79-42 in the inaugural match of the TNEB Golden Jubilee State-level basketball tournament at here on Thursday.

The results: TNEB 79 (Sivakumar 23, Ravichandran 14, Senthilvel 10) bt Classic BC 42 (Kingston 12); Tuticorin Port Trust 74 (Rathanaraj 34, Balakrishnan 16) bt Youngsters BC 41 (Selvam 10, Sathan 10).

Hari Babu wins

J.R. Hari Babu (Madurai) beat S. Arumugam (Tiruchi) 25-0, 25-0 in the singles final of the United India Insurance Carrom tournament at Madurai recently.

In the semifinals Hari Babu beat Anbuchelvan (Madurai) 25-0, 25-0 and Arumugam beat V. Nagarathinam (Tiruchi) 13-17, 18-13, 25-4.

District chess

Rock CC posts win

Rock Cricket Club posted a seven-wicket win over Devaram XI Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-SDCA first division league at Salem recently.

The scores: First division: Devaram XI CC 181 in 45 overs (Murali 72 n.o.) lost to Rock CC 182 for three in 32.5 overs (S. Jagadrinath 67 n.o.); S. Rao CC 162 for eight in 41 overs lost to V. Ramana CC 163 for eight in 40.2 overs (P.G. Perumal 44, Nanda Kumar four for 28).

Third division: SRS CC 80 (N. Beemarao four for 33) lost to Metro CC 81 for one in 9.5 overs; Parks XI CC 202 in 45 overs (M. Mohammed Akbar 63) bt Premier CC 121 in 45 overs (Anees four for 12); RTP CC 285 for seven in 30 overs (Azharuddin 86 n.o., Kamal 73, Vikraman four for 53) bt Montfort School CC 189 for eight in 30 overs (Palaniappan 100 n.o.).

Chennai’s Gowjith Subhash (87) and Satheesh (four for 37) helped host Cordiant-Tripunithura CC defeat Buddies Infotech (Chennai) by two wickets in a Pool ‘B’ league match of the 57th Cordiant-Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval near Kochi on Thursday.

The scores: Buddies Infotech, Chennai 217 in 44.2 overs (Murali 65, Sreeram 50, Satheesh four for 37) lost to Cordiant-Tripunithura CC 221 for eight in 42.2 overs (Gowjith Subhash 87).
