KSP beats CIL

BANGALORE: CIL took the first set but fizzled out thereafter against Karnataka State Police (KSP) in the first Super league match of the Association Cup volleyball tournament for the Sri Chowdeshwari trophy at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium court, here on Thursday. The State Cops, which won the A Division league title last week against the same opponents in straight sets, then won 26-28, 25-22, 25-20, 25-16 in 80 minutes.

MEG downed ITI in straight sets at 26-24, 25-19, 25-14 in the other super league tie with veteran Premjith and Sachin playing a stellar role.

Bara, Deepak sizzle

High scoring matches were the order of the day in the State ‘B’ division league hockey tournament here on Thursday. Madras Engineering Group (Boys) pounded Mysore District Hockey Association (Mysore) 10-1 with Uday Bara (17th, 21st, 22nd, 45th and 49th) scoring five goals, including a hat-trick.

Micky (second & 46th) and Bhavanth (56th & 59th) scored a brace each while Sanjay (41st) completed the tally. Machaiah (37th) managed to breach the MEG defence once.

South Western Railway (Hubli) beat Om Sai (Dharwad) 7-0 with Shashidhar (18th & 29th), Hassan Ali (49th & 56th) in the thick of action. Mallikarjun (14th), Manjunath (25th) and Kiran (22nd) also scored.

Coorg HA swamped Metro HC 9-0 with Deepak (eighth, 15th, 18th & 19th) scoring four-in-a-row. Chengappa (third), Bipin Sebastian (21st) and Mukesh (33rd, 43rd and 46th) also scored.
