PANAJI: Around 200 films, both Indian and foreign, will be screened at the 38th International Film Festival of India 2007 (IFFI - 2007) beginning here on Friday. The Indian Panorama will present a bouquet of 36 films, 21 feature and 15 non-feature films. The package is a mixed bag with stalwarts such as Budhadeb Dasgupta and Adoor Gopalakrishnan presenting two films each. The section will feature Ami Iyasin Aar Amaar Madhubala (The Voyeurs - feature) and Naushad Ali — The Melody Continues (non-feature) by Budhadeb Dasgupta, and Naalu Penunungal (Four Women - feature) and The Dance of the Enchantress (non-fFeature) by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Debutant directorsDebutant directors Sameer Hanchante, Samir Chanda and Bhavna Talwar will screen their films Gafla (Scam), Ek Nadir Galpo (Tale of a River), and Dharm respectively. A specialised competition for feature films by Asian, African and Latin American directors is being organised, for which 14 films have been selected from 13 countries. The competition jury this year is headed by veteran filmmaker from Hungary Marta Mazaros, who has directed more than 60 films and won prestigious awards at various international film festivals. Other members of the jury are Meltem Cumbul, a leading actress from Turkey; Shaji N. Karun, cinematographer, film director and script writer from Kerala; Pablo Cesar, director from Argentina; and Robert Sarkies, a young filmmaker from New Zealand. A special section celebrating 60 years of India’s Independence “India @ 60”, will feature seven patriotic films, including three feature films and four documentaries.
