Tragedy: Rafiq, his wife Munni and their daughter Sunni who were drowned in Chikkajala Lake on Wednesday. BANGALORE: Four persons, including three of a family, drowned in the Chikkajala Lake, off Yelahanka, on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday. They have been identified as Rafiq (40), his wife Munni (33) and their daughter Sunni (9), and their neighbour Sharada (26), all residents of Ambedkar Colony in Kattigehalli village. Sharada’s husband Naveen Kumar was rescued by a fisherman. Rafiq, a native of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, was a painter and was living at Kattigehalli for the past few years. According to the police, the two families had come to the lake to wash clothes. Around 5 p.m. while playing in the water, Sunni slipped and fell into the lake. While trying to rescue Sunni, her parents and Sharada drowned in the lake. Muniraju, who was fishing at the lake, rescued Naveen Kumar who too had jumped into the lake to save the others, the police said. The police along with the personnel of the Fire and Emergency Department searched the lake for nearly three hours on Thursday morning and recovered the bodies of Sunni and her parents. Sharada’s body was traced towards the evening, the police said. The bodies were handed over to the respective families after post-mortem at the Government Hospital in Yelahanka. The Chikkajala police have registered a case.
