Lok Satta to hold party polls by secret ballot

HYDERABAD: The Lok Satta will hold organisational elections through secret ballot and preferential voting in more than 50 divisions of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on December 2 in the first phase as per constitutional norms laid down by the party.

Stating this at a press conference here on Thursday, the party’s national coordinator Jayaprakash Narayan said, the second phase would be held after 10 days. Organisational elections for the entire State would be completed by February next.

Declaring the party’s intent to introduce a new political culture, he said that all party candidates for organisational posts would be chosen by members of the party through a secret ballot.

Action-oriented

He said that there would be affirmative action-oriented policies to promote leadership of women, youth, backward classes, minorities, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

In accordance with the party constitution, an autonomous electoral authority had been created to oversee internal party elections in GHMC.

It would have powers to constitute division-level election authorities to assist the conduct of the elections.

The nomination process would begin on November 26 and conclude the next day.

Following the withdrawal of nominations and final list of candidates on November 28, the elections would be held on December 2.
