Jyoti Basu suffers a fall

KOLKATA: Veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu suffered a fall at his residence, Indira Bhavan, in Salt Lake here on Wednesday. An X-ray showed a crack in one of his rib bones.

Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Biman Bose, Secretary of the State Committee of the CPI(M), visited him on Thursday.

Mr. Basu had been advised total rest by a team of doctors, his personal assistant, Joykrishna Ghosh said.
