BHUBANESWAR: From the east coast where he recently appealed to the World community to help the cyclone victims of Bangladesh through his art, famous sand sculptor Sudarsan Patnaik has moved to the west coast to sculpt the story of the evolution of celluloid on sand. To be christened as ‘Hollywood to Bollywood’, Sudarshan’s sand sculpture on the Goa beach will tell the tale of cinema right from its initial stages in the west to its growth on the Indian sub-continent. It will coincide with the celebration of the world cinema at the ongoing 38th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). “I will be assisted five of my students from the Golden Sand Art Institute in Puri, I will create a triangular sculpture with about 15 tonnes of sand that would be spread over nearly 1,600 square feet on the beach on November 29,” the master artist told ‘The Hindu’ over telephone from Goa. The hosts of the IFFI have invited Sudarsan and some of India’s celebrated artists to mount their activities at five different locations in the Island City during the festival. Sudarsan has selected the enchanting Baina beach as the location for creating the sand sculpture. The internationally acclaimed sand artist has already participated in 31 international sand sculpture championships across the globe and won a number of awards.
