Aid for tourists on Puri Beach

Correspondent

PURI: The district administration in association with the Puri Beach Development Council, police and the Department of Tourism has introduced the much needed tourist assistance service on the sea beach in Puri, also known as the pilgrims’ paradise.

Six personnel including five tourist assistants and one supervisor have been pressed into service on the beach to provide instant assistance to the tourists, informed the council secretary and the District Tourist Officer S.K.Patnaik.

They have been specifically instructed to guide the visitors who are venturing into the treacherous sea here that has often caught the swimmers unaware, he pointed out.

Clad in uniforms and carrying identity cards, the personnel would be available on the beach between 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., the officer elaborated and added that the team has been provided cell phones and a motor cycle to stay connected with the local police.

They have also been provided torch lights for their night vigil, it was learnt.

While a team of three assistants has been patrolling on the beach between Diagbareni to hotel New Sea Hawk, the other has been looking after the shore between Dalmiya Atithi Vihar and Digabareni.

The team has to report to the police station near the beach daily about the activities on the beach, Mr. Patnaik said.

They have also been advised to guide the tourists and pilgrims to seek the help of the police, temple administration and tourism officials during crisis, if any.
