BANGALORE: Sri Vidya Mandir High School, Malleswaram, lifted the “Best School” trophy at the grand finale of “The Hindu Young World Fest 2007” held at the Mangala and Shashwathi Auditorium of NMKRV College here on Friday.

“This event has given us the first look of how competitions in this world are going to be. As soon as we got to know that we are performing in such a prestigious fest, we started preparing, keeping in mind not to let the name of our school down,” Parth Chandiramani said.

Once we gave our performance, we were eagerly awaiting the results. We also planned the entry to the stage. And when our names were announced, we were on cloud nine,” Vinayaka S. Rao said.

“All our efforts have yielded good results,” said Vijayalakshmi, teacher at Sri Vidya Mandir, who accompanied her school children.

Students of The Oxford Senior Secondary School (CBSE), J.P. Nagar, received the “Best cheering team” cup.

Former Minister Rani Satish and world billiards champion Pankaj Advani gave away the prizes to the winners.

In her address, Ms. Rani lauded the performance of the schoolchildren and called them the cultural ambassadors of India. “Karnataka is known for its talents in various fields, especially in art, and here you have demonstrated it. Art is present in everyone, but only needs to be identified. And competitions such as this provide a huge opportunity for you to showcase your talents,” she said. Pankaj told the schoolchildren to take their performance to the next level. “If you have some talent, display it but keep improving all the time. Competitions teach what to do and what not to,” he said.

A “Kamsale nrithya” by students of Mirambika School for New Age and a solo dance by “Michael Jackson” Pradeep Paul of KLRS Patel Ramareddy School enthralled the audience.

Students of Chitkala School of Dance trained by P. Praveen Kumar and Ameya trained by Chitra Chandrashekar Dasarathy presented classical dance.

There was a special dance presentation by tiny tots of Ebenezer International School. Manjula Premkumar, art teacher at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, presented Geetha Chitra.

N. Rajashekar, Regional General Manager of The Hindu, Bangalore, said the fest, organised as part of The Hindu NIE Programme, was the most popular event among schoolchildren.

Over 5,000 children from 200 schools participated in the mega event.

The event was sponsored by Canara Bank.
