Inform authorities about sand mining: Collector
Staff Reporter
KANCHEEPURAM: Collector Santosh K. Misra has urged the farmers and the general public to help prevent illegal sand quarrying on the Palar riverbed by providing information about such activities to the district administration.
Responding to pleas from ryots at a farmers’ grievance day meeting held here on Friday, Mr. Misra called upon the people to inform the authorities concerned about the illegal activities without fear.
He directed the Revenue and Public Works Department officials to pursue such information without fail.
He also told the officials to take the help of the police while moving to the riverbed to prevent illegal sand mining. Several speakers alleged that groundwater quality had gone down in several parts of the district.
Mr. Misra urged the Rural Development Department officials to ensure that water-testing kits provided to village panchayat presidents were put to use and water quality reports were collected regularly.
This would help to take steps before the groundwater quality turned bad, he said.
