Bangalore: Noted sculptor and writer on sculpture N. Marishamachar has urged the Government to come to the rescue of the renowned painter the late R.M. Hadapad’s nationally known Ken School of Art, which is facing closure threat.

Mr. Marishamachar was speaking after receiving the prestigious R.M. Hadapad award, instituted by the Alumni of the Ken School of Art, here on Friday.

History

Situated in Sheshadripuram in Bangalore, the Ken School of Art had attracted renowned painters and other cultural personalities in the country and abroad for over three decades.

It was now being demolished by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike for accommodating a shopping complex.

“Despite all out efforts the management of the school could not find an alternative place for shifting it. The survival of the school is possible only with the intervention of the Government either by providing space for it in the existing venue or a new venue for the purpose,” he pleaded.

Author of 18 books on art and sculpture, Mr. Marishamachar had played an important role in the contemporary art movement by establishing his own school of thinking on traditional and modern art forms. He had served twice as the member of Kendra Lalithakala Akademy and had made significant contribution to the field of sculpture as an artist and Registrar of the Karnataka Shilpakala Academy.

He was also a close associate of the late Hadapad.

Hailed

Secretary Kannada and Culture I.M. Vittalmurthy traced the history of the school and applauded the achievements of its architect the late Hadapad at the national and international levels in the field of fines arts.
