Ensure supply of aravana to pilgrims: court

TDB says it has decided to sell aravana directly

Six lakh lids to be imported from Taiwan

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday asked the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) members and its officials to work “as a team in cooperation and not in confrontation” so that the administration would be “smooth and the image of the board among general public be boosted”.

The Bench comprising K.S. Radhakrishnan and T.R. Ramachandran Nair made the observation while considering the reports filed by the Sabarimala Special Commissioner and the TDB on Aravana preparation.

The judges observed that the board and its officers should see that sufficient number of Aravana tins were made available to devotees who were coming from far away places so that complaints of the devotees could be avoided.

The court directed the board to take effective steps for the supply of Aravana during the entire season without any interruption.

In its report, the board said it had decided to manufacture and sell Aravana directly. For this purpose, the board had procured 4,57,000 “composite cans” and 1,75,500 “easily open lids” on a war footing. It was stated that steps had been taken to import six lakh lids from Taiwan.

The report said that over and above, 50,000 lids which could be operated manually would reach Sannidhanam. The board said that taking into consideration the inflow of devotees in large numbers, steps had been taken to procure cans as well as lids, and that sufficient number of tins for Aravana were being made available to devotees.

The board said the TDB president and its members were camping at Sabarimala to supervise the manufacture and distribution of Aravana.
