Queen’s University, JNU join hands

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Queen’s University, Belfast, is seeking to collaborate with Jawaharlal Nehru University here in different areas. The first step in this direction will be the launch of a lecture series by the two institutions.

“We visited JNU last week. We have agreed with the Vice-Chancellor to begin a lecture series, a start towards other collaborations. Leading researchers from Queen’s University will come to JNU, while their top researchers will travel to Belfast. Such a series will facilitate interaction between members of the staff of the two universities,” said Queen’s University research and regional services director Trevor Newsom during an interaction with the media here.

“We want to get the staff of the two sides speaking. They should know each other. We want to see a lot more exchange of staff. Northern Ireland is very keen to have strong links with India,” said Dr. Newsom.

A delegation from the research-driven university was in the country to promote world-class research.

The delegation also met University Grants Commission chairperson Sukhdeo Thorat and discussed a proposal for bilateral agreement between the United Kingdom and India for exchange of staff and students.

Queen’s University has also signed an agreement with Bengal Engineering and Science University, Kolkata, for a unique scholarship programme to allow Indian science and technology students to live and work in Belfast for two weeks.
