JD(S) to launch Statewide tour in December

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) has decided to launch a Statewide tour in December under the leadership of the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, to counter the BJP’s ongoing campaign targeting the party. It is also aimed at strengthening the party organisation and preparing it for elections.

MLC and Janata Dal (Secular) spokesman Y.S.V. Datta told The Hindu that during the tour the party would not only give a befitting reply to BJP’s ongoing protests against the JD (S), but also place the facts before the people. “The BJP’s single-point agenda was to come to power. Having missed it, the party is resorting to meaningless yatras to gain public sympathy,” he said.

“We desisted from supporting the BJP in the interests of the State. Personally, such a decision may have disappointed Mr. Yeddyurappa. But the State’s interests are more important. We are going to the people all this,” Mr. Datta said. The JD(S) has convened a meeting of its State-level office bearers, district unit presidents, legislators, MPs, former legislators and members of urban local bodies, in Bangalore on November 29 to finalise the details of the State tour. It will be attended by JD(S) president H.D. Deve Gowda, and the former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy.
