Karnataka politics

The Janata Dal (Secular) has given a new definition to the term “unconditional support.” The BJP should not have sought its support to form a government in Karnataka knowing full well that the JD(S) was reluctant to support it. The Assembly should not be kept in suspended animation any more. Elections should be held for a fresh mandate from the people.

R. Madhavan,

Chennai

While the BJP deserves to be criticised for aligning with the JD(S) in Karnataka, the JD(S) too deserves flak for its deplorable attitude. Fresh elections will end the crisis only to give rise to another. With a multi-party system in place, a fractured mandate is inevitable. And there is no reason to suggest that the inevitable will not happen when another election is held.

N.V. Sudarsanan,

Chennai

Many readers have expressed the opinion that the BJP stands exposed after it took the JD(S) support to form a government in Karnataka despite the JD(S) letting it down earlier. I feel the BJP made the right move by forming a government. It exposed the JD(S) which, after parading its MLAs in New Delhi pledging support to the BJP, withdrew it later.

S. Manju,

Thiruvananthapuram
