BSNL calls to U.S. is Rs.1.75 a minute

Special Correspondent

Through calling card ‘CallNow’

NEW DELHI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Friday announced that calls to the United States and Canada would now cost just Rs.1.75 a minute from BSNL and MTNL phones, against Rs.7.20 at present through a new calling card — CallNow — that was launched on Friday.

Other destinations

The rates for other destinations such as France, Russia, the United Kingdom and South East Asia would vary from Rs.3.25 to Rs. 4 a minute, depending on the denomination value of the CallNow cards, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Kuldeep Goyal said at a press conference here.

“Higher the denomination, cheaper the call charges. The CallNow card also allows BSNL to BSNL/MTNL and vice versa calls at Re. 1 a minute and to other operators at a maximum of Rs.2 a minute.

Tie-up with Indiatimes

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has tied up with Indiatimes for launching Free Messaging Service (FMS).

Under the facility, instead of the sender, the SMS receiver will be charged.

The service will help those who have exhausted their air time (cash balance) to send SMS in an emergency situation, but with the receiver’s prior permission.
