KOCHI: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is in the process of identifying a list of products which are sensitive to import from the European Union at zero duty. In this context, the Confederation of Indian Industry, in association with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is organising a consultation with stakeholders for identifying the negative-list items for the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement at Hotel Avenue Center, Kochi on November 27.

R.S. Ratna, Director, and Ajay Srivastava, Director, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, will hold discussions with industry representatives.

The main products on which discussions will be held are agricultural products, marine products, rubber, plantation crops and spices.

India and European Communities Commission have launched negotiations for a Bilateral Investment and Trade Agreement which will include FTA on goods and services.

These negotiations are in pursuance to the commitment made by the respective governments at the India-European Union Summit held in Helsinki in October, 2006. The negotiations are expected to conclude by the end of 2008.
