NEW DISTRICT: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurating Ariyalur district on Friday.

ARIYALUR: The newly-created Ariyalur district will be provided all infrastructure facilities needed for its socio-economic and industrial development, State Minister for Local Administration and Rural Development M. K. Stalin announced on Friday.

Speaking after inaugurating the district, carved out of Perambalur district, he said that the scope for industrial development of Ariyalur was high, as the timing of the bifurcation coincided with the execution of the much-delayed Jayamkondam Lignite Power Project.

The State Government would spare no effort to ensure the overall development of the district.

The bifurcation of Perambalur district was yet another achievement of the DMK regime in keeping with its poll promises, Mr. Stalin said. The introduction of a tender system under the free colour TV scheme had resulted in a saving of Rs. 163 crore, he said.

Union Minister of Information Technology and Communications A. Raja sought the cooperation of land owners in and around Jayamkondam for the expeditious take over of the land for the project.

Around 300 acres out of the total 3,500 acres for the Perambalur special economic zone had been acquired. The remaining land would also be acquired through an amicable settlement with land owners within next six months, he said.

Sakthikanda Das, Special Commissioner and Commissioner for Revenue Administration, said the State government sanctioned funds for the purchase of vehicles for the new district.

Revenue Minister I. Periasamy, Transport Minister K.N. Nehru, Forest Minister N. Selvaraj, MLAs D. Amaramoorthy and S.S. Shivashankar, Ambuj Sharma, Revenue Secretary, V.M. Xavier Chrissonayagam, Collector, Ariyalur, and Anil Meshram, Collector, Perambalur, spoke.

Mr. Stalin distributed assistance to the tune of Rs.2.66 crore to 5,000 beneficiaries and inaugurated new buses on 10 routes from Ariyalur.
