Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Anti-social elements vandalised two temples in Kazhakuttam early on Friday morning. The police suspect an armed gang of not less than three persons to be responsible for the almost simultaneous attacks on the Kuruttoor Dharma Sastha and the Kazhakuttam Perumanchira Mahavishnu temples. The places of worship are nearly 2 km apart. The miscreants threw out idols in one temple and wrecked the sanctum sanctorum of the other. They did not steal gold ornaments or cash kept at the temples. The collection boxes were also left untouched. Pramod Kumar, Circle Inspector, said the attacks could have occurred after 2 a.m. The police have lifted three fingerprints from the scene of crime. The police have stepped up patrolling. Bharatiya Janata Party and Hindu Aikya Vedi workers took out protest marches in the evening. Local traders observed a hartal in protest against the incident.
