Need for alternative political force stressed State accused of gifting lands to private firms Kakinada: The CPI is prepared to abide by whatever decision the Cabinet Sub-Committee takes on Statehood for Telangana, said party State secretary K. Narayana. Speaking to reporters here today, he said the Congress party was sending out conflicting signals on its stand on Telangana while passing the buck to the Central sub-committee. The mood for Telangana State is strong and the Congress party might pay a heavy price if it ignores the people’s aspirations. On the Bhu Poratam, Narayana said the party would continue to fight for the land for poor. The State Government should verify the ownership of lands occupied by the Left parties and not implicate the agitators in false cases. He alleged that vast tracts of assigned lands were usurped by the land mafia by creating records/title deeds in the names of fake beneficiaries but the government seems to be unconcerned with the wrong-doings. The party has resolved to use the courts as a forum to make the government examine the veracity of the land transactions. The CPI leader stressed the need to form an alternative political force to the Congress and TDP which have ruled the State for most years but failed in alleviating the living conditions of the people. The modalities of this proposed political dispensation are being worked out by the leaders of various parties and organisations. Narayana further alleged that the State Government is gifting lands to private companies at throwaway price in the name of Special Economic Zones. The government is acting as a broker for the private firms, which does not augur well for the people. CPI leaders K. Appa Rao and K. Krishna Rao of AITUC were among those present.
