Ex-minister resigns from BJP over denial of ticket

Role of money in ticket distribution, alleges Karn Singh

Blames Prem Kumar Dhumal for refusing him ticket to fight Himachal Assembly elections

Supporters of Rakesh Pathania hold protest march following denial of ticket to their leader

Shimla: Rebellion began to brew in the Bharatiya Janata Party in Himachal Pradesh ahead of the second phase of Assembly elections in the State with a former minister resigning from the party and supporters of another holding a protest march on Friday over denial of tickets.

Peeved over denial of ticket from Banjar Assembly constituency in Kullu district, Karn Singh, who served as a minister in the Prem Kumar Dhumal Government from 1998-2003, on Friday resigned from the party.

A report from Kullu said, Mr. Singh who is the brother of the former state BJP President and ex-Member of Parliament Maheshwar Singh, sent his resignation letter to party President Rajnath Singh and its state unit chief Jairam Thakur.

He alleged role of money in ticket distribution and blamed Mr. Dhumal for denying him the ticket. Sitting MLA Khimi Ram was retained by the BJP on this seat.

Mr. Singh, twice MLA from Banjar in the past, however, said despite being denied a ticket he would contest the Assembly election. He, however, did not disclose from which party he would enter into the fray.

A report from Nurpur in Kangra district said, supporters of the former MLA Rakesh Pathania marched through the streets of Jassor to protest against the BJP denying a ticket to the ex-legislator and nominating a new comer Malvika Pathania.

Fax to Rajnath

Leading the protest march, state BJP minority cell vice-president Yakub Khan and the party’s Nurpur bloc general secretary Fauja Singh said they have sent a fax to the party President Rajnath Singh to reconsider allotment of ticket to Rakesh Pathania failing which, they claimed, a large number of party workers would leave BJP. — PTI
