THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city Corporation on Friday demolished a wall and shed at the rear of the Big Bazaar shopping mall at Pazhavangady that were constructed without the mandatory permit from the local body.

Workers employed by the corporation also started dismantling two generators that were operating without permit.

G.R. Anil, chairman of the corporation’s standing committee on Health, said the outlet had failed to respond after being served notice to dismantle the unauthorised construction and remove three generators. “The generators were located in the basement in the area earmarked for parking of vehicles. On receiving the notice, the managers of the outlet removed one of the generators but the other two were retained.”

Mr. Anil said the corporation had also served notice on Big Bazaar to close down the furniture shop on the fourth floor of the building for unlicensed operation. The Health committee meeting on October 26 had decided not to issue trade licence to the shop.

The unauthorised constructions at the rear of the building were demolished using mechanised equipment.

The corporation team was led by Mohankumar, Assistant Town Planning Officer. As many as 25 workers were deployed. The corporation had also requested police assistance for the operation. Civic officials said the management was cooperating with the demolition team in dismantling the generators.
