Plea to increase compensation
|
VIZIANAGARAM: Farmers holding assigned lands and were served eviction notices a couple of days ago launched ‘Bhoo Rakshana Porata committee (Struggle committee for lands protection) opposing alienation of their lands to Jindals for setting up alumina refinery at Bhavaninagar junction (Kotha Road) in S.Kota mandal.
On the other hand some 150 farmers Mushidipalli, Boddavara and Kiltampalem panchayats took out a rally from Boddavara to Tehsildar Office in the morning and submitted a memorandum to Tehsildar Manorama giving consent for acquisition of their lands. They appealed to Jindal management to increase the compensation amount from Rs. 2 lakhs 500 per acre keeping in view the high land value in the area. They, however, did not mention the sum required per acre in the memorandum, Ms. Manorama said.
Relief package
An official of Jindal told The Hindu over phone that the farmers demanded Rs. 5 lakhs in addition to shares worth Rs. 2 lakhs, as promised by the management, in the company and relief package till they completed construction of houses.
Former TDP MLA S. Kota Sobha Hymavathi, who launched the struggle committee along with the Left parties, said that those who took out a rally in favour of Jindal in fact were not farmers and they were only farm labour having no pattas in their names.
