LJP to go it alone in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh

New Delhi: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) on Friday said it would contest the Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh on its own.

“We tried to have a tie-up with Congress in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. But, since there is no positive response to our proposal from that party, we will fight on our own,” LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan told a press conference here. Releasing the first list of its candidates for 24 seats in Gujarat, he said that till the date of withdrawal, there was still time for reaching an electoral accord with Congress.

“If the Congress wants, it is still not too late,” he said adding that LJP should not be blamed for contesting on its own. Paswan said the purpose behind his efforts to have an understanding with Congress was to jointly take on the BJP in Gujarat.- PTI
