Check-up by four-party panel to ensure quality

Progress of irrigation projects to be put on website

HYDERABAD: The quality of irrigation projects under ‘Jalayagnam’ will be checked by a committee comprising engineers from four parties -- project and quality control wings of the Irrigation Department, third party agencies appointed for the purpose and the company executing the project.

So far, each of these parties conducted inspections separately.

A joint check-up is expected to ensure an objective assessment of quality. A four-party team is inspecting the pipeline of the Yellampalli project. It is expected to submit a report to the government soon.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday after Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy reviewed the progress of irrigation projects vis-À-vis the timeframe set for their completion,

Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah announced the schedules for release of water from different completed projects.

Water would be released to 20,000 acres, to start with, from Devadula in December. The first stage of the project was ready with pumphouse and pipelines.

Works were in full swing by the AP Transco to give power connection to the project by December 5.

By June next, seven tmcft would be stored in Pulichintala and water released for the first time from the Krishna Delta.

The project works would be expedited following removal of all hurdles.

Before December-end, Gundlakamma would provide water to 20,000 acres, Telugu Ganga to one lakh acres, Guthpha to 37,000 acres, Alimineti Madhavareddy Canal to 38,000 acres, Sriramsagar II to 19,900 and Pushkara to 47,000 acres.

The Minister said submission of designs by contractors would be reviewed and penalty collected from them for delay.

The Minister said details indicating the progress of the construction of irrigation projects, taken up under Jalayagnam, will be put on website for public scrutiny of the claims made by the government.

Website

As an additional attraction, audio files will be clubbed with details to help the browser.

The government has already launched a website (http://emulate.aponline.gov.in/irrigation) providing village-wise details of the irrigation potential of 11.09 lakh acres created under the newly completed projects, inviting suggestions/ comments from public.

A consolidated version of the ayacut will be provided on the website by December-end incorporating the public suggestions and comments.
