One more pleads guilty in stamp paper case
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Another accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper case pleaded guilty before the Special Court for CBI Cases, here on Friday.
Balaji, facing charges including possession and sale of counterfeit Government stamp, and forgery, informed Special Judge N. Velu that he wanted to plead guilty of the offence. When the accused made this submission through video-conferencing mode from his Bangalore prison, the Judge asked him to send a letter to that effect, so that the court could direct the State Government to produce him before the court for further proceedings.
(Already, Sarfraz Nawaz has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to imprisonment for five years by the court).
Earlier in the day, charges against five accused persons – Nizamuddin, Mohammed Ali, Shankar, Ramasamy Sadhu and Nazneen – were read out and they pleaded not guilty.
Peter Kennedy, another accused, said he had nothing to with the offence and added that he had been in jail for 32 months. His request to turn approver had already been filed in court. He sought a month’s time to consult his parents to plead guilty. Abdul Karim Telgi, Abdul Wahid and Jacob Chacko, who were produced through videoconferencing, requested the court to adjourn the proceedings to enable them to decide whether to plead guilty or not.
Mr. Velu then adjourned the matter to December 6 for further proceedings. The matter was taken up on Friday to frame additional charges against the accused persons, pursuant to a request from the CBI to frame charges individually against the accused.
