VISAKHAPATNAM: A minor girl and her boyfriend belonging to Vijayawada allegedly attempted suicide on Saturday following denial of consent to their affair by their parents.

They walked out of their houses about three weeks ago.

Later , they went to Tirupati and Rajahmundry and checked into a lodge in Allipuram in Visakhapatnam three days ago.

Out of danger

They were rescued and shifted to the King George Hospital by EMR 108 team after they were found unconscious in the lodge room by the staff. They allegedly consumed pesticide a day after the 19-year-old boy’s birthday. The girl is aged 15 .

The couple claimed that they were in love for past four years.

The girl was wearing a mangalasutra and they reportedly entered into wedlock at Simhachalam some time ago.

Two Town Circle Inspector V. Bhima Rao said the parents of the girl had charged the boy with kidnap and a case had been booked in Vijayawada after they ran away from their homes.

Police said the boy and girl were out of danger.
