Rama Rao performs a hat-trick

Bangalore: Ram Rao’s hat-trick (ninth, 55th and 69th mins.) helped Oriental defeat Southern Blues 5-4 in a State super division league match at the Football Stadium here on Saturday. Mal (72nd min.) and Arumugam (76th min.) also scored for the victor.

Meanwhile, Deepak Kumar (27th min.), Nirmal Kumar (32nd min.), Roy (45th min.) and Sanoj (58th min.) scored for Southern Blues.

Earlier in an ‘A’ division league match, BHEL (EPD) defeated SWRI 4-2. Tony’s brace along with strikes by Thyagu and Parthipan helped BHEL move ahead while Vijayan and Mahesh chipped in SWRI’s two goals.

Easy for Mysore Zone

Mysore Zone defeated Raichur Zone by eight wickets in a KSCA under-17 inter-zonal tournament match that concluded here on Saturday.

After suffering a first innings deficit of 34 runs, Raichur scored 136 in its second innings to set a target of 102, which Mysore eased past in 18.5 overs with K. Somashekar chipping in an unbeaten 52.

The scores: Raichur Zone 202 in 53.4 overs and 136 in 37.1 overs (Mahendra Gowda 50, Joshuva Sheeln five for 28, Somashekar four for 54) lost to Mysore Zone 236 for eight decl. &106 for two in 18.5 overs (K. Somashekar 52 n.o.).

President’ XI 284 for nine decl. in 82.2 overs and 69 for one in 22 overs drew with Tumkur Zone 140 in 63.3 overs (Jaggesh Sharma five for 19).

At Shimoga: Dharwad Zone 233 for three in 90 overs drew with Mangalore Zone 236 for nine in 90 overs (K.L. Rahul 57). At Bhadravati: Shimoga Zone 277 in 90 overs and 73 for five in 27 overs drew with Combined City XI 221 in 75.2 overs (B. Dhanush 86).

Raju to lead

Raju Bhatkal will lead Karnataka in the Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy under-22 All India knock-out tournament at Visakhapatnam from November 30 to December 21.
