TIRUCHI: All new constructions in the city for which building plan approvals were issued by the Local Planning Authority (LPA) over the past one year have come under the scanner through an intensive verification drive currently under way. The drive was launched recently under the direction of the Collector Ashish Vachhani, also the chairman of the LPA, to ensure that the builders complied with plan rules. Stop work notices have been issued to 30 builders in the city after various violations were detected during the verifications conducted so far, sources in the district administration told The Hindu here recently. Residential buildings of more than 2,000 square feet and commercial buildings of more than 1,000 sq.ft., of plinth area would have to obtain plan approvals from the LPA. At least 150 building plan approvals issued by the LPA over the past one year would be subjected to the checks. Currently, there was no verification process. The current exercise, expected to be completed within a month, was intended to tone up the system, sources said. The violators have been directed to rectify the deviations or face demolition. The LPA has kept the Corporation informed of the stop work notices issued so that they could act accordingly before utilities such as water connection and drainage connections were provided to new buildings.
