Rajahmundry: The Municipal Corporation of Rajahmundry (MCR), which has embarked on revising the master plan of 1995, is expected to complete the exercise by March 2008. The city will then have high-rises, sky scrapers, multiplexes and other such facilities. Speaking to The Hindu on Saturday, City Planner R. Vidyullatha said that the first task was to identify the burden on infrastructure and the problems of urbanites. In the past, the planners did not anticipate such a growth in this semi-urban town, which was due to increase in land prices. High-rise buildings, sky scrapers, multiplexes and other such facilities would slowly be provided in Rajahmundry also. Two multiplexes were planning to foray into the city. “Two private parties, including a multi-national company, have approached the Planning Department with their plans,” Ms. Vidyullatha said. As per the government guidelines, each multiplex should have 3,000 square metres of area with 18 metres of road and other facilities. Apartment cultureThanks to the boom in real estate prices, the apartment culture picked up in Rajahmundry. In the last three years, 75 to 100 apartments had come up in the city. The revised master plan would facilitate more land use, road alternatives, locations for high-rise buildings, dumping yards and strict implementation of plans. “We will not allow deviations in plans. But, before purchasing any asset, one has to verify the documents properly,” she said.
