SBI associate banks’ strike from Dec. 2 to 4
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Protesting against the move to merge the seven associate banks of the State Bank India into a single entity, the Associate Banks’ Officers Association (ABOA) will bring work to a standstill at 3,490 branches across the country from Dec 2 to 4.
This was announced here on Saturday against the backdrop of the 40th anniversary celebrations of ABOA by Harshavardhan Madabhushi, general secretary, ABOA unit, State Bank of Hyderabad.
Mr. Harshavardhan and others told media persons that it was a pity that efforts at mergers and acquisitions were still on, despite clarity found in the Subsidiary Banks Amendment Act that allowed the associate banks to even go public.
“We are against the merger and very soon chalk out an action plan of agitation,” they added.
Glorious past
They recalled that the associate banks had a glorious past of being associated with development. The State Bank of Saurashtra, they said, had recently completed 100 years of its existence.
Amitabha Guha, Manging Director, SBH, R.P. Sinha, Chief General Manager, SBH, G.D. Nadaf, K. Ramakoteswara Rao and A.C. Chandraprasad, general secretaries of the All-India State Bank Bank Officers’ Federation, All-India Bank Officers’ Confederation, AP unit and ABOA, respectively, were among those present.
