Manipal: Vice Chancellor of KLE deemed university, Belgaum, C.K. Kokate inaugurated a Pharmacists’ Community Cell at the Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS) here on Saturday. Ananth N. Naik, faculty, Department of Pharmacy Practice, said the cell was a novel concept which would bridge the gap between pharmacists and patients. The Association of Community Pharmacists of India (ACPI) offered novel services to help the patients in a professional manner in the matter of drugs and pharmaceutical care through the cell, he said. The cell includes a blood bank data base and drug bank. Under the blood bank data base, the cell will maintain the data of donors. Under the drug bank, the volunteers of ACPI will collect the unused tablets and capsules from people and physicians for distribution to the needy. The cell provides information on usage, storage, and brand versus generic price information to patients. “It is the duty of pharmacists to help patients in understanding the proper usage of devices and drugs,” Dr. Naik said. Principal of MCOPS N. Udupa was present.
