Pilot course aspirant gets loan

Timely help: G.A. Viknesh Kumar receiving an education loan of Rs.14 lakh from Finance Minister P. Chidambaram in Pudukottai on Sunday.
PUDUKOTTAI: G.A.Viknesh Kumar of Pudukottai town was the cynosure of all eyes at a function to mark the inauguration of the Bank of India’s branch in Pudukottai on Sunday.
No sooner the branch was inaugurated, he got the maximum educational loan of Rs.14 lakh for pursuing training to obtain ‘Commercial Pilot License’ in Australia. The total fee for this 16-month course is Rs.21 lakh and he has contributed the balance sum for meeting the expenditure.
Viknesh Kumar says that although he got a seat in Anna University, he did not join it, as he had chosen commercial pilot course right from his boyhood as his career. He had tried to get admission in Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udan Academy in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh but the Australian National Airline College was more attractive for him. Encouraged by his father G. Arumugam, he sought the educational loan from the Pudukottai branch of Bank of India, which was inaugurated on Sunday.
“We were fully convinced of the prospects of the course and processed the application within a day,” says the Senior Branch Manager S. Kannan.
In all, nine students got educational loan to the tune of Rs.30.63 lakh.
The Union Minister for Finance P. Chidambaram who gave away the loan said that banks sanctioned loans to more number of college students to enable them to pursue their higher education.
