As thousands of medicines are being manufactured by numerous pharmaceutical industries, it is high time to create a comprehensive expert committee to strengthen the country’s drug approval system which is apparently a perfunctory body. There is a need to exercise caution as the information being provided by the drug company might be misleading, at times. It is more important since most of the drugs are introduced and aggressively promoted before with no ample evidence that they are effective and safe. In this context, experts could make sure that a particular drug is tested and made more easily available. P. Siva Rama Krishna Rao Visakhapatnam ConfusingCurrency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs.100 are similar in appearance due to which many, particularly the old and uneducated might be deceived. Similar is the case with new Re. 1 and Rs. 2 coins. RBI should use different colours for the currency. PGK Patnaik Visakhapatnam Delay in DA benefitsThe State Government has enhanced dearness allowance to its employees but the DA benefits are not extended to UGC pensioners unlike in the past. There is an inordinate delay in extending the benefit after the State Treasury Officer wrote to the Government seeking clarification on the matter. The State Government should respond on such matters immediately to help senior citizens. Rajaram Palluru Visakhapatnam Things to keep in mindWith the start of picnic season, APSRTC should consider to ply buses to picnic spots like Kailasagiri, Rishikonda, Yarada, Bheemunipatnam and Simhachalam. Elders should ensure that youth do not venture into deep sea waters, liquor and junk food should be avoided at all picnic spots. G. Gopala Krishna Visakhapatnam Another kind of nuisanceRecently a rally by NCC cadets was taken out in Visakhapatnam to create awareness among the public on the need of planting trees. Such rallies are unnecessary as they cause traffic problems on the already choked roads. Moreover, students are exposed to the pollutants emanating from vehicles. The slowing down of traffic due to such processions leads to air pollution. I request the Director General of NCC to use the energies of NSS volunteers and NCC cadets to plant saplings in and around their respective schools and colleges and use more innovative procedures so the young could develop real love for protecting the environment. Kasturi Tallamraju Visakhapatnam
