257 km of State highways in Belgaum district repaired

Belgaum: The Public Works Department, Belgaum division, has claimed that development work on 257 km of State highways has been completed.

According to a release from superintendent engineer S.S. Patil here on Saturday, 722 km roads in five taluks of Belgaum district, were taken up for development in the division.

The development works have been taken up by the Karnataka State Road Development Corporation (KSRDC). The KSRDC has provided Rs. 22.5 crore towards development of these roads under a package that ensures maintenance for three years by the contractor concerned.

Under package-I, development (re-carpeting) of roads to the extent of 174 km running through Belgaum, Khanapur and Bailhongal taluks had been completed, he said.

Potholes were being filled on the Peeranwadi-Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Cross stretch of Belgaum-Goa road (via Chorala) and Jamboti-Rabkavi road,

Mr. Patil said and added that development of the road stretch between national highway (Belgaum city) and Autonagar cross would be taken up in a week. Under package-II, 32 km of the 186 km roads taken up for development at the cost of Rs. 5.88 crore in Saundatti taluk had been re-carpeted.

Under package-III, development of 52 km of 116 km road in Ramdurg taluk had been completed. A sum of Rs. 3.3 crore was being spent under package-III, the release added.

Mr. Patil, who inspected works on Peeranwadi–VTU Cross section on Saturday, asked the contractors to ensure quality.

Development of roads in other taluks of the district would be taken up soon, he said.
