CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to introduce pre-engineering course in the engineering colleges of the State in view of the severe shortage of science students at 10+2 level, Haryana Technical Education Minister A.C. Chaudhary said on Sunday after presiding over the meeting of the State Board for Technical Education. This course would be equivalent to 10+2 level. 50 p.c. rural studentsMr. Chaudhary said that the engineering colleges would provide dedicated infrastructure for this course. As many as 50 per cent students from rural areas would be admitted to this course and all the students living below poverty line (BPL) families would be provided free education. He added that Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was committed to promotion of technical education to provide more employment opportunities to the youth. It has been decided to increase the seats in the polytechnics from 10,000 to 18,000 from the next academic session and introduce new courses in Accounts and Audit, Machotronics and Aeronautics. The Board also decided to launch informal skill development courses in all polytechnics. He said that all the polytechnics would have to work as production centres in consultation with industry. Work experienceThis would provide real work experience to students and low cost job processing for industry. The money earned by this activity would be used for development of laboratories and facilities in polytechnics, he added.
