“Buddha’s philosophy relevant today”

Buddhism had brought about a social revolution in India, says Shinde

Varanasi: Lord Buddha’s philosophy is more relevant in the present day as it shows the way to lead a happy life, Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has said.

Addressing the 76th anniversary of Mulgandha Kuti Vihar at Isipathana Deer Park in Sarnath over the weekend, the Minister said that Lord Buddha gave a new direction to people’s life by his teachings.

Mr. Shinde said that by following the teachings of Lord Buddha, the government could bring equality and eradicate social evils.

Describing Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar as the tallest intellectual of the country and a great political leader,

Ambedkar praised

Mr. Shinde said the father of the Indian constitution had left his indelible impression on society and politics. He said Dr. Ambedkar was impressed by Buddhism. The Minister said the birth of Buddhism had brought about a social revolution in the Indian society. Recalling Dr. Ambedkar’s contribution as a Power and Irrigation Minister, Mr. Shinde said he had worked a lot for the Damodar Valley Project. — PTI
