Foundation of water supply project laid

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Water Resources Minister Sanwarlal Jat laid the foundation stone for a new regional water supply project for Mavli-Salera Khurd section in Udaipur district over the week-end, while calling for renewed steps for rain water harvesting.

The Rs. 1.75-lakh project will help supply clean drinking water to remote villages in the region. Mr. Jat said another scheme worth Rs. 98 lakh for Badgaon in the tribal-dominated region would be sanctioned shortly.

Mr. Jat said a large number of check-dams and ponds had been constructed in Udaipur division during the last four years, while as many as 125 minor irrigation projects had been completed.

The Minister called upon the people to utilise every drop of water and evolve an efficient water management system. He said the farmers should adopt irrigation practices consuming less water and avoid sowing water-intensive crops.
