Rejects Chief Minister’s claim “Arrest should have been kept a secret” LUCKNOW: United National Progressive Alliance chairman Mulayam Singh on Sunday blamed the Mayawati government for Friday’s serial bomb blasts in Uttar Pradesh. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and other UNPA leaders, including Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu; the former Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chauthala, and Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh visited the blast sites in Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi. Mr. Mulayam Singh told journalists here that the State government could not be absolved of its responsibility and the “failure” of its police and intelligence agencies. He rejected Ms. Mayawati’s claim that Central intelligence agencies failed to caution the government of possible terror strikes. Mr. Mulayam Singh said the November 16 arrest of three Jaish-e-Mohammad ultras by the Special Task Force should have been kept a secret. He alleged that the Samajwadi workers were being targeted by the present regime as if they were terrorists. Mr. Naidu said the bombs that went off in Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad were of low intensity. Otherwise, the damage could have been much more. Mr. Amar Singh described the blasts as an attack on judiciary. He said all political parties should join hands to fight terror.
