SRINAGAR: Noted agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan and Director General of the Indian Council for Agricultural Research Mangala Rai, on Sunday were conferred the Doctor of Science by the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences (SKUAST), Kashmir, on Monday at the its fourth convocation. Governor and Chancellor S.K. Sinha, conferring the degree, said: “By virtue of the authority vested in me as the Chancellor, I confer the Degree of science Honoris Causa of this university upon Dr. M.S. Swaminathan in recognition of his contribution to the growth and development of Agriculture sector at the national and international levels and for drawing the road map for a food secure and poverty-free state of Jammu and Kashmir.” Dr. Swaminathan could not attend the convocation due to his pre-occupation. Conferring the degree on Mr. Rai, he said: “By virtue of the authority vested in me as the Chancellor, I confer the degree of Science Honoris Causa of this university upon Dr. Mangala Rai in recognition of his contribution to the growth and the development of agriculture sector at national and international levels”.
