Says help would be given for augmenting healthcare facilities in Bellary BELLARY: G. Karunakar Reddy, Bellary MP, while appreciating the services rendered by the Arya Vysya Association, promised the people that he would strive hard to obtain maximum help from the Union and State Governments to improve healthcare infrastructure here. Speaking after inaugurating the Gududur Narayana Shetty and Padmavathamma Eye Bank Centre here on Friday, Mr. Reddy said that around 1.4 percent of the total population in the district was suffering from visual impairment and that their vision could be restored if the people came forward to donate their eyes. He appealed to the people to educate others about the importance of eye donation, which in turn would enable the needy to see. RegretExpressing regret over his inability to get adequate funds allotted for programme implementation, he said he would make all efforts to do so hereafter. Physician B.K. Srinivasmurthy, who was the chief guest, underlined the need for people to come forward to donate their eyes. According to him, statistics showed that the number of visually impaired people was on the rise, while the number of corneal transplantations done was very less mainly because people were yet to come forward to help. Director of Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences Khaja Naseeruddin, and president of the association Ramesh Gopal spoke. The former president of the association Nama Ratnaiah was felicitated on the occasion.
