Private traders offer good price for paddy

NAGAPATTINAM: Private merchants and traders have started canvassing among farmers in the Cauvery delta region of the district to procure samba paddy assuring a higher price at their door steps than the rate offered by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation in its DPCs. The severe competition from private traders came as a shock to the TNCSC as it might not get the newly-harvested samba paddy from farmers from the first week of January next.

Centre enhanced the minimum support price for paddy and fixed at Rs.775 per quintal for Grade ‘A’ variety paddy and Rs.745 for common variety.
