Over 43 lakh employees will benefit Implement recommendations in April
MADURAI: The Southern Railway Mazdoor Union has urged the Sixth Pay Commission to take into account inflation while formulating its recommendations.
The present salaries of railway employees were not in commensurate with inflation, R. Kesavan, divisional secretary of the union, told journalists here on Saturday.
“It was one of the main reasons for constituting the Sixth Pay Commission. Railway employees must also be paid on a par with public sector workers,” he said.
More than 43 lakh Central Government employees would benefit from the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, he said, of whom railway workers constituted 14 lakh.
He also pressed for the release of the promised interim relief of Rs. 1,000.
The Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, had informed Parliament on Friday that the recommendations of the Commission would be out by April 2008.
The recommendations should be implemented in April itself, failing which the union would be forced to undertake protests, said Mr. Kesavan.
