Spot on: A National Cadet Corps cadet at the tent-pegging event at the 59th NCC Day celebrations on Sunday. HYDERABAD: A motley group walking haphazardly, in contrast to the orderly ‘gait’ of the cadets and saluting the Chief Minister in its own inimitable style almost brought a lump in spectators’ throats. In addition to the parade of specially-abled children, there were several heart-rending and ‘hair-raising’ moments at the 59th NCC Day celebrations on Sunday at Parade Grounds. The daring cadets even managed to land a micro-light right in the middle of the parade grounds and taxied it near the podium of dignitaries. Much to the surprise of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, cadet Shalini, who was in the micro-light, hopped out and presented him with a bouquet. Touched by this act, a visibly moved CM recalled the influence of National Cadet Corps during his formative years. “I was a NCC cadet during my college days. I even earned a ‘B-certificate’ and participated in parades and rallies of this kind. NCC definitely plays a vital role in inculcating discipline, courage and honour among youngsters,” Mr. Reddy said. Showcasing talentCadets travelling at speed of 75 km per hour on horseback showcased their ‘tent-pegging’ talent with ease. Aero-modelling, where scaled down models of planes are controlled by a ground-based remote control, also drew a lot of ‘eye-balls’. Other adventure sports like show-jumping and parasailing were also displayed by the cadets. The actual parade, having nine contingents of NCC units drawn from various parts of the State, reflected how effectively the cadets are trained to perform and work towards forming a cohesive well-oiled unit. The marchpast could have easily rivalled any such parades of service personnel. Deputy Director General of Andhra Pradesh NCC Directorate A.C.Bharali and several other top officials from the Directorate were present at the 59th NCC Day celebrations.
